Someone told me that couples are able to create their own worlds
— though I prefer to think of it as a garden.
I learned to tell the flowers apart; their names, their seasons. 
When to turn them toward light and shade.
I learned to tend to them, and so, to you.

We lived in the garden for a while — 
far from everything, in moments of pure joy and contemplation.
Then, suddenly, the real world came in.
